.For this page, I am going to let the pubs photos, & clips from movies, & T.V. showcase the pubs, that I have selected to make you aware of their existence. I will have to apologise,as some of the clips I will show you, do have swearing, & violence in them, probably too much swearing & violence in them if I have to be honest.
The pub that you can see in the slides above, has stared in the motion picture, "Legend", starring the actor Tom Hardy, who plays both characters of the infamous Kray twins, East End gangsters whose gang,"The Firm', plagued London during the 1960's. A fight takes place inside the pub with gangsters hired by the Kray twins, arch rivals, "The Richardsons", after one of the twins orders himself a drink. It does get a bit messy I have to admit.
The strange thing is the morning I went to photograph this pub, whilst on the journey there, I realised I had forgotten my SD memory card for the camera. I also was lucky enough to bump into the landlord, who told me he was there, at the time the film was being shot. He explained to me what a lovely guy the actor Tom Hardy is, saying how charming a character he is. I am a big Tom Hardy fan, I especially like his character as Alfie Solomon, in the T.V. series,"Peaky Blinders".
The pub you can see in the slides above, show a lovely Trumans pub, which as you may not already know, I have a love for, so when I watching the television show Save Me, I wanted to know immediately, where the pub that the main characters use to meet & enjoy a pint, or spirit was situated. The pub is more or less adjacent to Londons Regents Canal. The television drama Save Me is about a character named,"Nelly" Rowe, whose life is changed when Jody, his estranged daughter he fathered, mysteriously disappears at the age of 13. He is at first questioned by the police for her going missing. Lennie James who plays Nelly makes it his quest to find his daughter. I won't go too much into detail, but I throughly enjoyed this drama series, which will probably have a season 3.
You can see a shot of The Palm Tree within in the first few seconds of the trailer. Again apologies as there are adult themes in this series.
I hope you are not starting to think I like violence, but it seems to me that a lot of violence, is portrayed as that which occurs in pubs. I must say that all the times I have been inside visiting a pub, I have hardly ever witnessed any violence taking place. The Black Prince pub that is on view in the slides above, can be found in the Black Prince Road Lambeth. I have visited the pub a couple of times, one time on the evening of the Champions League final between Liverpool & Tottenham Hotspur. The pub has a major role in the Hollywood movie,"The Kingsman", a big fight scene takes place, when Colin Firth, who plays a secret service character tries to recruit, Gary"Eggsy", Unwin, played by Taron Egerton, into his organisation to find the killer of,"Eggsy", father. In order for the thugs that are bullying,"Eggsy", don't escape, & for interrupting his pint of Guinness, Colin Firth locks the door to the pub, to teach the thugs a lesson in manners.
I don't know whether this rumour is true or not, but since the movie, the pub has many a visitor from all over the world. It appears tourists like to order a pint of Guinness, then pose for a picture whilst someone pretends to lock the door. Hopefully I will be visiting the pub again soon to take some photos of the inside, & enjoy a pint of the black stuff, Pure Genius.
No, I haven't got a sore throat, but if you watch a movie then all of a sudden say,"I know where that pub is", you want to find out a little more information. Unfortunately, this pub at the moment isn't open due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is also renowned for being a live music venue. One afternoon whilst deciding which movie to watch whilst on my extended Staycation, I found this light-hearted movie called,"Fishermans Friend". The movie is of about a group of Fisherman who fish out of Port Isaac in Cornwall. On their downtime, apart from when they are not manning the local lifeboat station, & out fishing, they formed a group, that like to sing traditional sea shanties.
Whilst on a boys weekend away, to celebrate a work colleagues stag party, a group of London record producers come across the fisherman whilst performing, overlooking the quay. One of the group who was impressed by their performance gets hoodwinked into signing the fisherman to make an album. To cut a long story short the group become quite famous, even winning awards for their style of folk music.
This is when the group Fishermans Friend visit London going in search of a record deal. With their rendition of, " What shall we do with a drunken sailor.
Having studied Clerkenwell & Islington whilst studying to become a tour guide, I passed this pub on a number of occasions. The pub has strong connections with a 12th Century nunnery that originally stood on the site. I have actually enjoyed a couple of pints in this pub. To my surprise the pub is like the tardis, as on entering the inside is a vast relaxing space. The pub features at the beginning of the T.V. series,"Gangs of London", where various London gangs meet to pay homage at the wake of a boss of a London Gang who was murdered, with the funeral taking place at St.James church which is just a stones throw away from the pub.
You will see the pub in this video at 0:46 seconds. I throughly enjoyed this programme. If you haven't had the chance to see it yet, I would highly recommend seeing it.
I have also been here a couple of times. The pub inside is quite large, so there is plenty of room to manoeuvre, with a really good vibe. Outside you can see it still has its original fascia, of the Jolly Farmers which I love. The pub however, runs under a different guise. Zeitgeist, runs as a pub that serves German style beers & food, which every now & then I like to dabble in. The pub in the movie known as the,"Drowning Trout", excels in the scene, when Vinnie Jones makes fools out of three would be killers, pointing guns at him. Fortunately for Vinnie Jones's character, he notices that the guns, the would be killers are carrying are actually replicas. Vinnie Jones aware of this fact, & knowing that his weapon is a Desert Eagle .50 teases the would be killers with a fantastic commentary where he makes them aware that their position is futile. Priceless.
I just love this commentary I only just noticed that the character on the left is Lennie James. I must go back to try their German fare, but I have just noticed that for the time being they are not open Monday - Wednesday.
