I have been meaning to pay a visit to the new instalment of the infamous Truman's trademark, since I saw glimpses of the building, in pictures advertised during the pandemic. A true continuation, once a stalwart of Londons brewing, historical, heritage. It was a bit of a trek for me, but well worth the effort. The journey took about 1 hour 30 minutes by train, & tube but necessary, as driving isn't a good idea with the area being mainly industrial units, provision for parking is limited. However, this means if you so desire, you can enjoy a pint, a spirit or two, with something delicious to eat, without worrying about being over the limit, & being pulled over by the police.
Walking on through the entrance past the bar area, you come to a large open space. On the wall, you will find a large, you could even call it, massive screen, that shows, live English premiership games, along side European Champions league fixtures. If you are a boxing fan, they also show live boxing. Over the next few months, if you love your football, you will be able to book a table, which I would recommend to get a front row seat, to watch Englands Womens football team, try to win there version of the European Championship competition, which takes place between June, & July of this year. Then of course, the spectacle of the Mens football team, trying to get to the final of this years World Cup, which takes place in Qatar, strangely enough in the winter months of November, & December of this year. I wish both teams success in their respective competitions.
Here is the link to show the upcoming fixtures to be shown on the very big screen.
I would definitely love to be here during the world cup, I do believe the atmosphere would be amazing, especially if England managed to go one further in beating their opponents to lift the trophy. Perhaps sooner, I may have to book a table for this years F.A.Cup final. Surprising, as there has always been a connection between large sporting events, & the brewing trade. For example you had the Carling Premier league. You also had Tetley's, who were once sponsors of the England Cricket Team. I could go on, but perhaps you could name a few yourselves to find the connection.
To make further use of the huge media screen encouraging people to enjoy the large space on offer the seating area enables you to enjoy movies whilst enjoying your favourite tipple alongside freshly popped homemade popcorn, just make sure you don't get any bits, stuck between your teeth. Trumans Social Clubs Film Club, is showing one of my favourite science fiction movies, Blade Runner staring Harrison Ford. I suggest it would be great, to keep popping back to the website to see the future films, that might be on offer, as an alternative of going to the cinema. Would be great to get comfortable with a pint, get comfortable to enjoy an all time great movie. Strangely enough they also dabble in arts & craft workshops, such as making coasters, as well as a form of gardening inside a large glass bowl known as,"Terrarium". Here is a link to the page.

It is also apparent that special occasion such as New Years Eve Party, Mothers Day, Easter are considered & celebrated, the list is endless. I am getting on a bit old, but the odd night club evenings with DJ, take centre stage helping you to decide, to put your glad rags on, dust down your moves, whilst you listen to the grooves. I arrived virtually on opening time, just as the manager opened the big wrought, iron gate to the entrance of the venue. There are spaces to park your bike, if you can ride a bike after having a couple of pints, don't go over the limit now. Push your way through a large black door, you will see the bar area, where you can find 20 draught beers on kegs, & cast, which includes Lucky Saint, a low alcohol percentage beer.
I only had a coffee, as my thirst for alcohol, has diminished over the past couple of years. I prefer dark beers such as Porters, & Stout. I was amazed to find out, whilst editing my photos, they had a coconut porter, that if I had known, I certainly would have tried. I ordered my coffee at the bar old school, but if you are a bit of a techno geek, you can scan the QR code using your mobile phone on the tables provided. This I did for a bacon roll, served in a brioche roll this was delicious going down a treat. At the time of writing, the menu consists mainly of a selection of burgers & pizzas. Thrown into the fray, you will find delights, such as spicy chicken wings, vegetarian choices such as spiced aubergine, fried cauliflower, & halloumi chips. Salads come in the form of a social bowl, ingredients including Chickpeas, shredded beets, spinach, pickled carrots, roasted squash, tomato, grapes, red onion, avocado, crispy kale, tahini & chia seeds. A simple salad of rocket & watercress is available. Sunday roasts, half a roast chicken, roast strip sirloin of beef & mushroom wellington are served until sold out so make a booking & get there in good time not to be disappointed. One thing I did notice, was the fact that from the reserved signs on the tables, & the birthday party groups that were already enjoying their parties, that the place could get extremely busy. From my time as being a chef, I can imagine how stressful this can become. I am sure though, that through experience, hard work, & organisation this has been taken into consideration so when things do start to get busy, service goes smoothly.
I forgot to mention to get to the Truman's Social Club I travelled by train & tube. Travel to Blackhorse Rd tube station, which is on the Victoria Line, if you are a brisk walker, you turn left out of the station, follow google maps like I did, trying to decide which direction to go, & if you don't get dizzy, its roughly a 10 minute walk, quite easy to find. he says chuckling. The area is mainly industrial, as you can see from the flyer above, the area is home to 6 micro breweries. Here is the link showing the location to all of them. I think the idea is to re-launch a co-operative venture, to promote the area, along the same lines as the Bermondsey beer mile, underneath railway arches not to far from Tower Bridge. The idea is to have a fun filled day/night experiencing brews from breweries in the vicinity. https://blackhorsebeermile.co.uk/ If I don't make it on the 1st May, I'm sure I will be tempted on many other occasions.
As you can see from the sign above, I love the connection that means the Truman's name continues. I am sure, that now you are aware of Truman's existence, make sure you find you nearest pub, that serves its product sit back & enjoying a relaxing pint of your choice.
Please take a look at my page Whitechapel in the East End where it gives you historical information about the original Truman's Brewery, sited in Brick Lane. If you can take time to explore examples of old Truman Pubs, you won't be disappointed as there are many a fine example of them out there if you know where to look.
